Be A Part of Something Revolutionary
Black Sapphic Book Club is more than a reading group, it’s a growing movement built by and for Black sapphic readers who believe in joy, storytelling, and community care. As we grow, we’re looking for passionate readers and creatives who want to help make the magic happen behind the scenes.
On this page, you’ll find a breakdown of our volunteer roles and a short form to apply. Each position supports the heartbeat of our club, from organizing events and writing blog features to helping us stay connected online. Whether you have an hour a week or a few hours a month, your time and energy help us keep creating soft, affirming spaces for Black queer readers to gather, laugh, and fall in love with stories that look like us.
If that sounds like your kind of energy, explore the roles below and fill out the application at the bottom of the page.
Team Roles
☑️ Blog Writer
Our blog writers are the voice of BSBC online. You’ll write reviews, opinion pieces, or spotlight posts about Black sapphic stories and authors. Each month, you’ll receive topic guidance and access to upcoming ARCs to inspire your work. Expect to contribute one or two pieces a month, and you’ll always receive credit on our site and social media. If you love words and want to uplift our authors, this is your lane.
☑️ Event Planner
Our event planners are the heart of our Houston gatherings. You’ll help us organize meetups, book brunches, and author events by finding venues, managing RSVPs, coordinating setup, and helping the day run smoothly. This role usually takes about two to four hours each month and works closely with our Membership and Creative teams. It’s perfect for organized, social readers who love building memorable experiences for others.
☑️ ARC Reader
As an ARC reader, you’ll get early access to upcoming Black sapphic releases and play a part in choosing our future book club picks. You’ll share thoughtful feedback, reviews, or quotes that help us spotlight indie and traditional authors alike. This role is flexible, based on ARC availability, and perfect for readers who devour new books and want to support our community’s authors directly.
☑️ Community & Social Admin
Community and Social Admins help keep our digital spaces safe, friendly, and active. You’ll help moderate our Facebook group, respond to messages on Instagram, approve new members, and gently guide discussions when needed. Expect to check in weekly for one or two hours. This role fits anyone who enjoys connecting with people, keeping things positive, and supporting other members online.
☑️ Creative Support
Our creative support team helps us tell our story visually. You might design graphics, take event photos, or edit short videos for Instagram and reels. Your work helps shape the look and feel of BSBC across all platforms. The schedule is flexible and project-based, ideal for members with an eye for design, photography, or social media who want to add their flair to the brand.
☑️ Membership Support
Membership support volunteers help us stay organized behind the scenes. You’ll track new member signups, manage forms, send welcome emails, and answer questions about joining the club. Weekly or biweekly check-ins are all that’s needed. This role is great for detail-oriented people who love making sure everyone feels seen and informed.
